The Approach Behind the Work

Developing A Responsive, Helpful Office Culture
Serving residents is the foundation of my work as a councilmember. My office has built a culture of problem solving, responsiveness, and follow-through, because residents deserve a City Hall that works for them. Since taking office, my team and I have handled more than 6,500 constituent cases, closing about 80 percent and continuing to move forward on longer-term issues that require funding or departmental coordination. Whether it is a street repair, a broken sidewalk, a traffic concern, or a complicated permitting question, our goal is to help residents get answers and move projects forward.

That same hands-on approach applies after storms. Through our “Frond Be Gone” days, our office helps collect fallen palm fronds from neighborhood streets, averaging more than 40 stops and filling two 40-cubic-yard dumpsters each time. These efforts help residents clear debris quickly and restore normalcy after storms.

Clear, Direct Communication
Clear communication is just as important as solving problems. I created The Voice of the Third, a weekly email that provides direct, accessible updates about City Council decisions, local projects, and community events.
I also try new technologies to improve communication, including launching District 3 Engaged, a ten-minute AI audio briefing that breaks down dense city reports into clear, easy-to-understand updates. These tools make it easier for residents to stay informed without digging through long agendas or technical documents.

Expanding civic understanding has also been a focus. I created the Third District Guide to City Council to help residents learn how meetings work and how to participate effectively. I lead an annual high school internship program that introduces students to local government, teaches civic engagement, and connects young people to the policy decisions shaping their neighborhoods.

Listening to the Voices of the Community
Transparency is also about improving how City Hall operates. As Chair of the Government Operations and Efficiency Committee, I have worked to make City Council meetings more predictable, accessible, and focused. These reforms are designed to give residents a fair opportunity to participate, reduce confusion about when items will be heard, and make the decision-making process easier to follow. I have also met with neighborhood groups, held town halls, hosted community conversations, and met one-on-one with residents to bring their ideas and concerns directly into policy discussions.

Honoring community history and service is another part of this work. I led the effort to rename the new Junior Lifeguard Facility in recognition of program founders Pat Flynn and Dick Miller, ensuring the legacy of their service is visible to future generations.

My goal is to deliver excellent service and a transparent, accessible City Hall. I will continue working to make it easier for residents to navigate city services, stay informed, and understand how decisions are made. Strong communication, practical problem solving, and open government will remain at the center of my work for District 3.

I have not avoided difficult conversations and have brought community ideas and concerns to the full City Council for discussion. My goal is to make it easy for residents to understand how decisions are made and to stay informed about the work being done in their neighborhoods.

My focus moving forward will be:
  • Making City services more responsive and easier to navigate
  • Continuing reforms that make Council meetings more predictable and accessible
  • Expanding communication tools that improve civic participation
  • Maintaining a constituent-first office culture built on follow-through
